Janet Grieve

Many of you will be aware already that sadly Janet passed away recently following her brave battle with cancer. She was a stalwart of the Players for many years, and although she was unable to have much input with the Players in recent times, she still followed our every move with her usual level of enthusiasm. Condolences go out to her family from the Players, she will be sorely missed now she is no longer in our ranks!

AGM 2014

The AGM took place on 22nd July 2014. Our finances are looking good, with Pirates making £700+, Cash on Delivery making £330+ and a new income stream, that of murder mystery nights, raising £425. So everything is reported as rosey in the money department!

The second Young Player of the year was awarded to Hamish Allen in his absence. Hamish has helped out and acted with the Players for many years and thoroughly deserved the award. Well done Hamish.

In Elections; Ben Lintott was voted in to carry on as Chairman, as was Jackie Heard as Treasurer. Nancy had made it clear she wanted to stand down from Secretary, and Susie David was dulty elected to replace her. The other committee places were taken, without a ballot, by Chris Marshall, Nige McBrayne, Verity Martindill, Nancy Marshall and newcomer Clary Binding. Clary replaces Sarah Kingsford who has stepped down after many years valuable service!

Phoebe Rees 2014 - Shrubbery Hotel Ilminster, 11th October 2014

We were nominated for several awards for 'Cash on Delivery' at this year's Phoebe Rees awards. The nominations were as follows;

Actor in a Leading Role - Nige McBrayne as Norman

Best Male Cameo - Simon Passmore as Dr Chapman

Best Director - Ben Lintott

Challenge Trophy - Roadwater Players

Set Construction - Patrick Daley et al

Stage Management - Sarah Kingsford

Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly we came away with no awards this year. The nominations above are a great achievement in themselves, since we know those at the top don't generally regard farce very highly. With six nominations we have done very well! We took a good party to the awards, and for once we had a table at the front!! Thanks to all those who went and supported us at the Shrubbery, we had a great evening.

Cash on Delivery

Well done to everyone involved in our latest production, Cash on Delivery. We worked extremely hard on a very complicated script, and I think the results showed how successful we were. We had some very impressive audiences, and all the feedback we received was very positive, including from our adjudicator for the Phoebe Rees competition and our rep from NODA. very well done to all concerned, our reputation goes from strength to strength, and as a direct result of the reviews we received we have gained some new members who are keen to get involved.

Cinderella Trophy Awards - Sat 17th May 2014.

With a clash with the spring play, it was unfortunate that only a small group could attend this years Panto awards. A new venue this year was the Winter Gardens in Weston-Super-Mare, and those that went enjoyed themselves immensely. Natasha Cross and Hamish Allen were nominated as Stars for the Future, the recruiting scene was nominated for Best Comic Scene and finally Chris Marshall was the proud winner of the award for Best Comic. Well done to all the winners, and everyone involved in what was a great show, especially Nige McBrayne who was not only directing for the first time, but was also responsible for the script (again a first for him).
