Committee Changes

Following the AGM where Geoff Best was replaced by Bill Tindall on the committee and the subsequent resignation of Mo Best, we were left with one committee vacancy and no Secretary. The post of Secretary has been taken up by Bill Tindall – many thanks for that Bill.

Following our appeal for a potential committee member for the coming year, Marilyn Rowe has been co-opted onto the Committee. Thank you to Marilyn for her interest and the Committee look forward to working with her over the coming months.

Hence the updated committee is as follows;

Allan Prentice (Chair, tel 640294)    Simon Passmore (Vice Chair tel 640344)

Bill Tindall (Secretary tel 641215)     Nancy Marshall (Treasurer tel 640620)

Ben Lintott (tel 640276)  Brenda Mandziej (tel 633618)  Patrick Daley (tel 01643 707626)

Marilyn Rowe (tel   640192)

2008/2009 Subscriptions

These are now overdue. Please forward your £5 per adult or £2 per child to Allan Prentice at Westmont in Roadwater in order for your membership of the players to continue. Despite the great value costs of these subs, the Players do rely on them for keeping things going throughout the year.

Costume Store at Huish Barton

The store is now being overseen by Sarah Kingsford. Anyone holding costumes or wanting to hire costumes should contact Sarah on 01984 640773 with regard to this. Sarah should be your first port of call for these matters in future.

Dracula's Christmas - Panto 2008

This year's panto will be Dracula's Christmas written by Katherine Kingsford. It will be directed by Sarah Kingsford and will take place from 9th - 13th December 2008 in the Village Hall. The show has been cast, but Sarah is always keen to hear from anyone willing to help out. This should prove to be a great panto with lots of traditional elements and a few non traditional too! As things progress I will keep you updated on the 'Next Up' page of this site.

Spring Play 2009

It is our intention to hold a play reading/evaluation evening later in the year to choose a production for June 2009. Could members please give some consideration to ideas we may want to look at, and it will be necessary for a group of members to make a ‘library trip’ to Yeovil to get some other options.

Please bear in mind that any play needs to be suitable for our Hall and our cast! Anyone with a burning desire to direct can also make suggestions. Please give this some thought as it would be nice to get somewhere before the last minute.

Dates for the play will be the week commencing 15th June 2009. We realise this is later then normal, but we are restricted by Hall bookings and ½ term/bank holidays. Sorry about that!

Newsletter

Please take time to read the newsletter; there is some interesting stuff in it, as well as some important information. There have been a few changes made to the newsletter and it is now 'created' by Ben Lintott. Any questions/queries/complaints please forward them to Ben and he will consider them before ignoring you!!! - not really. Any comments on the Newsletter - preferably constructive!! - will be most welcome. Anyone who has a contribution for the newsletter please forward it to the editor/creator for inclusion.Keep in touch, Sefton.

Child Protection Policy

After much deliberation on this issue over the past few months the following child protection statement has been formulated; a copy of which will be handed to all parents and carers for each production with a return tear off slip, and will be incorporated into our rules.

"When young persons (under the age of 16), or vulnerable persons, are taking part in auditions, rehearsals or productions there will be a minimum of two adults (over 18) with them at all times. They will be supervised during these times and the Health and Safety rules of the Hall will be explained to them. The director of the production will be responsible for informing parents/carers of rehearsal and performance times. It is the responsibility of the parents/carers of young or vulnerable persons to ensure their safe arrival at and departure from auditions , rehearsals and productions. Should any concerns arise the committee undertakes to address them as a matter of urgency"
